From the Atlantic
A whole life in moving seawater
Our land-based farm sits at the ocean's edge, its 4,000 tanks supplied with over 10,000 tons of seawater every hour — so our abalone live their whole lives in moving Atlantic seawater.
We uphold rigorous standards in water quality, animal care, biosecurity and food safety to ensure a reliable, year-round supply — and full traceability at every stage allows buyers to trust the origin, health and handling of each abalone.

Since 1984
Abalone, in Harmony with Nature
Abagold's origins date back to 1984, when the late Pierre Hugo began experimental work on abalone breeding in Hermanus. In 1992, Abagold was formally established as South Africa's first commercial abalone farm.
Today, more than 40 years later, we cultivate abalone in close harmony with nature at the southernmost tip of Africa — and supply live abalone and a range of abalone products to international markets.
